Recognizable by its twin exhaust tailpipes, the new Audi S4 Avant got a little hot when photographers spotted it in a full test. Smoke from the front wheels when the tester escapes is evidenced by the brakes being applied too much when descending a lane. Always very well camouflaged, this S4 station wagon reveals some element of style under the sticky trim. Thus we discover slender headlights, a working grille and slightly less impactful than the current generation, the shield’s air intakes being reduced.
Looking closely at the photos of this prototype, we can see that the size of the car has evolved and looks more imposing. The current-generation Audi A4 (sedan and wagon) is 4.74 meters long, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the new segment crosses 4.80 meters and is a little closer to the Audi A6. Despite the few extra centimeters, the overall appearance of the model will develop smoothly. Audi is not ready to revolutionize everything at the risk of losing its loyal customers. The new Audi A4 and its various variants, including the Audi S4 Avant, will be compatible with the model that preceded it.

Modification of the main style will concern the so-called hood, it is located between the fenders and no longer overflows to the sides. This also allows you to create a kind of shield on the front of the hood, the so-called “soft nose”. It facilitates repair in the event of an accident, as a result of which the hood is better protected.

What will the interior of the Audi S4 Avant look like? We can already get a simple idea, as the driver’s door remained open. Despite the gauges and camouflage, the large digital instrument screen stands out. We also discovered the new multifunction steering wheel with flats on the top and bottom that can integrate tactile switches. On the other hand, the center console is similar to the Audi e-tron GT unit.

Faced with the latest generation BMW 3 Series and an all-new Mercedes C, the Audi A4 born in 2015 and redesigned in 2019 has a lot to do. That is why its renewal is necessary, and Audi is working hard to be ready in 2023. Under the hood of this car we still have to find thermal blocks (petrol and diesel) with 48-volt mini-hybrid engines, rechargeable hybrids, but also 100% Electric machining. For this, instead of the high-end MLB platform, the electric A4 will have a PPE platform developed by Audi and Porsche. Diesel Audi won’t fall out and the futuristic S4 should maintain this type of engine, but with 48-volt micro-hybridization. Audi would like to allow all TDIs to exceed Euro 7 standards for 2027 thanks to the use of HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) fuel. It is a synthetic molecule that is reconstituted from vegetable oils and vegetable oil residues (residual or waste raw materials). It is 100% renewable fuel. At the moment, it is more expensive than diesel (but due to the high price of diesel …), it is presented at about a hundred stations in Europe, including Belgium. Supply can change quickly if there is demand, as carriers say they are ready. The V6 TDI in the Audi S4 Avant can be run on HVO.
