Mercato: Chelsea want Sterling and Dembele

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues’ board is ready to splurge on this summer’s transfer window. The new owner, Todd Boyle, will be willing to give the means to Thomas Tuchel and his staff to end the arrival of Raheem Sterling and Ousmane Dembele.

Just weeks after the transfer of power at the helm of the club – from Roman Abramovich to Todd Buhle – Chelsea are set to show muscle once again. In third place in the Premier League last season, nearly 20 points behind Manchester City and Liverpool, the Blues want to reaffirm their demands for the next exercise. And they’d be willing to break the bank this summer’s transfer window for just that.

The British newspaper Daily Mail reported that the London club has identified its priority targets, and these are named Raheem Sterling and Ousmane Dembele. So Chelsea’s organizational structure is being restructured, starting with the staffing unit, the new US owner wants to rely on his manager, Thomas Tuchel, to add value to his workforce and to become competitive again. But Boehly also appears to be working in the shadows because according to The Athletic, he spoke with Jorge Mendes last week to discuss the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract expired in 2023 with United.

Dembele and Sterling, Tochel’s priority goals

Thus, the German technician would have mentioned the status of one of his former skills in Dortmund, who is nearing the end of his contract at Barcelona on June 30. The problem with bringing the world champion to London is the fact that he would like to stay in Catalonia. In recent days, Xavi, the Blaugrana coach, contacted him to persuade him to extend his lease after he ended last season as the best provider in La Liga. But no agreement has yet been reached and the salary the Frenchman is asking for is a problem for Barcelona. A constraint the Blues will not have, are willing to put €230k a month on the table to secure his services.

As for Raheem Sterling, he has just one year left on his Citizens contract, and Chelsea could put close to €70m on the table. If he sees England international Erling Haaland as the main contender at the forefront of attack, Gabriel Jesus’ possible departure to Arsenal could give him a chance to shine, before a potential contract extension.

But the blues’ priority may be elsewhere. After losing Antonio Rudiger, who left for Real Madrid, and Andreas Christensen, at the end of his contract, Tuchel has a full defense to rebuild. If he has been following France’s Jules Conde for a long time, agreement will be slow with Sevilla and the London club could consider Juventus player Matthias de Ligt.
